The present Conflict and its Solution

The existing conflict between the three parties King, Political parties and Maoists should be addressed and without delay. The death toll is increasing day by day. The Economy is on the way down; there is no peace and security. Poverty and growing unemployment has added fuel on the fire of present political crisis. Who knows what happens when people see no hope for the future? The grave question lies there. It will frustrate people and may encourage any attempts from suicide, suicidal bombings to join the rebels and so on. The most severe problem is the future of our younger generations who are facing several mental pressures and have
become the victims of the present conflict. The answer to the question why Maoist insurgency grew so fast in the hills of remote Nepal and it never stopped should be analyzed and found. Until the roots of the problems are answered the conflict never ceases. Why the two years after the deployment of army the insurgency is ever increasing?

Isn’t it the proof that Maoist problems cannot be solved by Military operations alone? The political blunders that the political parties and king are making have led the country to unrest and turmoil. The King, Political parties and Maoists have their own political aspirations. The King wants to be heard and be constructive according to his recent interview on Times Magazine and the Royal address in Nepalgunj; the leaders have their own aspirations to become the Prime Minister by any means. The Maoists are trying to win the war by any means since the very beginning. No one seems to be responsible and accountable to the existing problems of the people. Peace, the urgent need of nation, has never been the prime agenda of the ongoing political movement. Democracy! Democracy! Democracy! The same old agenda before 2007, since 2017 until 2046 and then recently. Yah! We need Democracy no doubt and nobody can question about Democracy! But is Democracy the only thing or is there a favorable environment for Democracy in the country. The constitution of Nepal 2047 was already in crisis and it reached the climax with the Royal Move of October 4. Why are then political parties still adhering for the same constitution? Maoists were always in opposition with this constitution and everyone knows the election is a distant thing at present. The people were dissatisfied with the 12 year Democratic practice and the way leaders led the country. So, they are still passive and are hesitating to come to the streets to rescue Democracy when it is in Jeopardy. Until and unless the Democracy becomes the business and transaction of the political parties and political workers alone it cannot exist that long. The failure of present agitation to achieve its goals is nothing but the lack of public desire to support the agitation. Even the advertisements focus on the prime agenda and tell why the product is superior to others and how it could be best to buy that product. The advertisements should focus on what the people actually want. Even the wars are fought on the prime agenda. So, are the elections and People’s Movements? Leaders should be able to sale their agenda to the public and the present failure of the political parties is to sale their agenda to the public and gain public confidence and support. Their old formula is not working as magically and as effectively as it should have been. The questions of constitutional monarchy or republic have never become the prime agenda of the public except Maoists. Peace has become the greatest concern to each people from the hills of Rolpa to the people of Katmandu and to every Nepalese abroad from Japan to US. This is the main reason why people didn’t go against the king when he declared Deuba as an incompetent. People remained silence and they were watching the ongoing changes and were even hopeful for the future. Why the political parties weren’t able to conduct such agitation on the 5th October or few days later after the Royal Move? The leaders have answers and public know it well. The leaders should have supported the king or gone against without any delay. The country wouldn’t have stand still like this then. The present Peoples Movement or the current agitation should declare Peace as the prime agenda and Democracy the ultimate and fundamental requirement for protecting Human Rights and Civil rights. The present agitation should address the problems of Maoist victims, the negotiable solution of the Maoists problem and the package programs for the economic recovery, reconstruction of the country and creation of new employments and opportunities, detailed plans and commitments to fight corruption and healthy Democratic practices. A single People’s Movement should address the two conflicts one with the King and next with the Maoists. Nation can no longer bear this uncertainty for long and neither People’s Movement one after another. There is little doubt that the Maoist problems couldn’t be addressed without the strong backing of the people to the government and it must be expressed through the public movement. Street agitations and People’s Movement only can compel King and Maoists to come to the negotiation table and reach an agreement. This is one of the reasons why the two Negotiations between the Government and Maoists became unsuccessful. The king is seeking a greater role at the moment and felicitation programs are going on. The king is in no mood to give up. Maoists are also not compromising their demands. So, it is the time for political parties to take responsibility of the people’s problems and address them. They should equally give pressure to the King and Maoists otherwise Nepal is heading towards an accident which is so certain. The king is getting strong support from abroad and the longer this turmoil exists the longer the King may rule the country directly. The war with the Maoists may take new heights and political parties may face new problems. The future of Nepal lies in the wisdom of our political leaders and the people are looking for someone who can lead out of this present crisis. He is the leader who solves the problems not the one who leads into the problems. The old leaders should either give solution or give a chance to the younger generation. We need a bold and swift move and a move from painful past and present to the better and safer future. Time waits for no one and History won’t forgive anyone. Everyone should be responsible and act accordingly in this moment of crisis. Political parties can’t blame the government and be irresponsible at this moment of great difficulty otherwise it will be the greatest blunder in the history of political parties and Nepal’s Democracy.
